1706, Benjamin Franklin was born in Boston. He was the tenth son of soap maker Josiah Franklin. Benjamin's mother was Abiah Folger, the second wife of Josiah. In all, Josiah fathered seventeen children.

1761, William Carey, pioneer English missionary to India, was born in Paulerspury, Northamptonshire, England. He taught at the newly founded Fort William College of Calcutta from 1801 until his death, and helped found the Serampore Press, making the Bible accessible to over 300 million people.
