A Choice of Supreme Importance

Do you recognize these men? If not, don't feel too bad. Most people would not recognize them. They are Supreme Court Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas. They are the two Justices that you can count on to render judgements based solely on the Constitution of the United States. Yes, there is William Rehnquist, but it's only a matter of time before he's gone. That is why it is imperitive that President George W. Bush nominate judges who are strict constructionists to the Supreme Court.

By all accounts, that is what he intends to do. If he does, it very likely will be the greatest legacy of his administration. Ronald Reagan, the greatest man to hold the office since, I don't know, someone long before I was born, nominated Scalia. But he also nominated Kennedy and O'Connor, both of whom are activists. George H. W. Bush nominated Thomas, but also left us with Souter. Hopefully, this President will do better.

Mr. President, as you surf the web this morning (you do have me bookmarked, don't you?), here is my advice: don't listen to anyone. Not the left, not the right. Political ideology is not the business of judges, law is. A Supreme Court Justice must be committed to know nothing but the Constitution, and it's original meaning.
